MIFFC has carried out a structured information and consultation process with its stakeholders. The main stages of this process are presented in this section.
- The information and consultation process undertaken by MIFFC began in November 2014.
- Open houses were held in April and July 2015, to consult the public and pass on general information about the project.
- The environmental impact study was filed with the MELCCFP on November 6, 2015.
- Following a public consultation held in winter 2016, the CMM submitted its final report and recommendations on the project.
- In May 2018, the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement tabled its report, recognizing that the site selected by the MIFFC is appropriate for the project, with its recommendations.

- The project was authorized by decrees of the Quebec government in June 2019 and June 2022.
- At the end of August 2023, the liaison committee held its first meeting with local stakeholders. Work is scheduled to start in fall 2023.
