Why an Airport Fuel Terminal in Montréal-Est?

The airport fuel terminal in Montréal, developed by the Montréal International Fuel Facilities Corporation (MIFFC), intends to provide a reliable, safe, and sustainable supply of aviation fuel for Canada’s three largest airports. Airlines will benefit from a more predictable supply that can better adapt to changing demand.

Five storage tanks have been built in Montréal-Est to receive and store aviation fuel. These facilities help supply the international airports in Montréal, Ottawa, and Toronto efficiently, while strengthening their energy security.

The airport fuel terminal’s strategic location will significantly reduce the environmental footprint of fuel transportation. By locating the terminal closer to the airports, the project will eliminate nearly 10,000 truck trips between Québec City and Montréal—cutting down greenhouse gas emissions by about 15% and reducing road congestion and transport-related risks.

Beyond its operational and environmental benefits, the airport fuel terminal will generate lasting benefits for the broader community. It will help strengthen the local economy by supporting specialized jobs in Montréal-Est and generating recurring tax revenue. By working with local businesses, workers, and suppliers whenever possible, MIFFC will also contribute to Montréal-Est’s economic development.
