The Montréal airport fuel terminal will provide an even more reliable aviation fuel supply that is both safe and flexible for major airports in southern Québec and eastern Ontario, including Montréal–Trudeau International Airport, Ottawa Macdonald‑Cartier International Airport, and Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Located in Montréal-Est, on the Island of Montréal, the Montréal airport fuel terminal is being built in an industrial area of the Port of Montréal along Notre-Dame Est Street, between Joseph‑Versailles Boulevard and Durocher Avenue. This strategic site enables efficient integration with existing infrastructure.
The Montreal airport fuel terminal will receive jet fuel by ship and store it in a tank located near the seaway. Fuel will then be transported to the airports by pipeline, rail, or truck, using a railcar and tanker truck loading station.
These facilities will enable the MIFFC to diversify its fuel supply sources, expand distribution options, and strengthen the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the jet fuel transport network. Air transport is entirely dependent on jet fuel, for which no viable option currently exists—or is expected in the medium term. Based on a study (published in July 2025) done by Stats Canada, Canada’s eight largest airports have posted higher volumes of passenger traffic year over year since 2024, and seven out of eight have seen growth since 2019 (prior to the pandemic). With air traffic rising and the average passenger volume exceeding pre-pandemic levels, securing a robust, resilient supply is critical.
